Spotlight: Lacefront Wigs

 I have a pet peeve for horrible hairlines courtesy Lacefront Wigs. Wearing lacefront wigs is hard and even celebrities get it wrong.  Bottom line is, you do not want to look like you are wearing a helmet.

Prior to jumping on the " Remy and Virgin Hair" bandwagon, I wore a lot of synthetic lacefront wigs and this past summer, i wore a Brazilian Remy lacefront wig so everything I say is simply from my own experience or from what I have observed. The purpose of this post is not to offend anyone.

 Lacefront Wigs: Donts

DO NOT glue down your lacefront wig.  I have seen people wear their lacefront wigs and the residue of the glue is still visible along the hairline. A lot of people use glue but I wouldn't recommend it just because I worry about the long term effect the use of glue could have on your hairline.

DO NOT wear the wig way in front of your natural hairline, this will create a very unnatural looking hairline and that helmet look you do not want.

What I used to do: I would part my hair from temple to temple leaving some hair out in front. Then I would attach the lacefront to my hair using the combs and then comb the left out hair over to cover the lace front. This would create a more natural looking hairline because from the front it is my natural hairline showing. Also it gives you a little bit more parting room since a lot of lace front wigs do not come with a lot of parting room.
One good thing I can say about lace front wigs is that they are a good protective style. But other than that, I would not wear one again because it is hard to make them look believable without leaving some of your hair out in front. This eliminates the "purpose"... I might as well have worn half wigs.
I would recommend Glueless full lace wigs because I have seen a number of nice ones on Youtube and they do not require you to use glue and can be parted anywhere.

Hair Extensions Debate: Does Brazilian Hair Really Exist?

Here's a funny pic someone sent to me on BBM last week.

There's been a lot of debate on black hair forums, YouTube etc. on the origin of Virgin Brazilian Hair Extensions. Brazilian hair is probably the most sought after type of hair extensions for African (American) women at this very moment. This is because the texture blends well with the texture of  African (American) hair.

So the debate is on the true origin of Brazilian Hair. A lot of people would argue that "Brazilian Hair" is not from Brazil. Some argue that it is originally Chinese/Indian hair that is processed to a texture that is then referred to as "Brazilian Hair".

Where do I stand on this debate?
Real Brazilian Hair does exist, but it is very pricey. What I'm sure of is that it's probably not available in mass quantities like Indian Hair. We all know that there is a large number of consumers of Brazilian Hair and a equally increasing number of companies selling Brazilian Hair. So it's pretty obvious that not all " Brazilian Hair" on the market is collected directly from Brazil. I also think that Indian Hair is often processed to different textures: Brazilian, Malaysian, Mongolian, Peruvian hair etc.

Next is the "Virgin" debate.  Hair is often steam process the hair to get a certain wave or curl pattern and some people say this means the hair not "Virgin". So the Virgin aspect depends on what your own definition of Virgin is.

I jumped on the "Brazilian Hair" bandwagon a little over 2 years ago and the origin or "Virgin" debate doesn't bother me at all. What is important to me is that the hair extensions I purchase are good quality, tangle & shedding free and blend well with my real hair.

Conclusion is if you want Real Brazilian Hair, it doesn't come cheap.

Final Update: My Brazilian Hair 3/4 Wig

I got a fresh relaxer on December 14th and I re-installed the 3/4 Wig on December 17th.

I complained in the previous post that this hair is silkier than my previous Brazilian hair extensions but the hair when curled does not appear silky at all. People actually think it is my hair.... when I say people I mean people who know I wear extensions and have also seen my real hair. The length is very believable and the volume looks natural.

Next post will be on my holiday hair. I want the bombshell look for Christmas & New Year so think longer, more voluminous hair... I'm excited!

DIY: First Look at My Brazilian 3/4 Wig

I know what y'all are thinking and the answer is YES!! I am a Weave-A-Holic.

I had some free time on my hands yesterday.. it was my day off and while I was organizing my storage, I found two unused bundles of Virgin Brazilian Hair 16 inches . One bundle was a Brazilian Body Wave (Natural Black) and the other bundle was straight with a slight wave (Natural dark brown). I decided to make a 3/4 Wig with the two random bundles. When I started thinking about switching to Brazilian hair, I ordered samples from different companies and the two bundles are most likely samples from different sellers.

I used the natural dark brown bundle on the bottom and the natural black bundle on top and this created a very subtle Ombre effect which is hard to see in the pictures :(
I was so eager to make the wig that I forgot take a picture of the bundles prior making the 3/4 wig and I finished the wig in a  little over two hours. I am getting pretty good at this :) I am never going back to sew ins... ever!!

I am loving the shorter length and as you can see two bundles is enough if your are using 16 inches or shorter. I made the U-part much bigger on this one because I intend to leave out a lot of my hair. I have not experienced any shedding.. like none at all which is awesome!! The 3/4 wig is not sewn to my hair yet and that is why the last picture does not show the top of my head. I am 4 months post relaxer and my roots look cray cray. I am getting a relaxer next week :) :)

This is another item I wanted that is way overpriced in stores in my area. Satin sleep caps are a must, they keep your hair from drying out. You should also wear them over your real hair and also when you have Remy/Virgin hair extensions installed.

I don't know about you but I suck at applying false eyelashes and I have never worn them as a result. But I came across this eyelash applicator in a Youtube video that "supposedly" makes the application of falsies easier so I decided to purchase one. *Fingers Crossed*

DIY: My Second 3/4 Wig Using Brazilian (Body Wave) Hair Extensions

Second time is the charm!!

I am done making my new 3/4 wig with the Brazilian Body Wave Hair Extensions from my previous post.

This time I did a much better job and it took me less time than the first time. I did not cut my wefts at all, not even in the front, unlike my 1st U-part wig.Practice does make perfect! This is my 2nd attempt at a 3/4 wig and I have to give myself kudos on that note.

I used a black Dome Cap & Foam Head

I sew around the tracks with  a loop stitch, I never sew through the weft.

 I used Angela Simmons' hair as the inspiration for this look and mine is not nearly as full. I can achieve a more voluminous look with bendy rollers. 

First Look At My New Brazilian Virgin & Remy Body Wave Hair

I received my New Brazilian Body Wave Hair Extensions yesterday. Instead of buying the lengths individually, I bought a 3 bundle combo. My combo had 3 bundles of hair:16 inches, 18 inches and 20 inches. They have different combos to choose from.

This is how the hair looked straight out of the package (all I did was take off the rubber bands) .

The 16 inch and 20 inch bundle are a Color 1 and the 18 inch bundle is a (Natural Black) 1B. The 16 inch and 20 inch were dyed to a Color 1 so they are not Virgin but the 18 inch is Virgin.

I initially wanted 4 bundles but I changed my mind last minute and decide to stick to my usual 3 bundles. I want it to look similar to Angela Simmons' hair in her Peta Ad. I also know I can achieve more volume with flexi/bendy rollers or a curling wand.

My Initial Thoughts:
I love it so far. It is so soft and I have been running my hands through the bundles and it doesn't shed a lot so far (I got about 4 strands from running my hand through all 3 bundles). It is so so soft which is impressive because it was dyed and sometimes when hair is dyed it can get dry.
I intend to make my second 3/4 wig as soon as possible.
